Question Protecting wet lenses during entry/exit UW

My first time diving with extra wet lenses gonna be next week. Pictured are my brand new AOI UCL-03 macro and the UWL-03Pro Wide-Macro Dome lens to be paired with the DJI Action Osmo 3.

Do you folks jump into the water with the protective neoprene soft sleeve on your wet lenses? My primary lens is going to be wide one some 70% of the time, but when I swap lenses should I use the hard cover or the neoprene soft sleeve to protect it from bumps and scratches during entry and exit from boat? The UWL-03Pro is all glass and a dome lens, so I am scared of scratches that cannot be polished off …

For a wide angle port /lens I always keep the cover on and remove it when in the water, the cover goes in a wetsuit pocket while diving and is put back on the port/lens prior to handing the camera back up to the crew.

I never jump in with my camera. The impact and water backlash can damage the camera or open latches.

Once I jumped in the water with a full size Nikon in a Nauticam housing. The water impact popped open the housing latches and the $2,400 camera flooded.

Get in the water without your camera, and have someone hand the camera to you. The lens protector should be in place.
