Protect the Gulf's marine environment, consumer health, and coastal communities!

This may be our last chance to let the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council know that no plans for industrial fish farming in our ocean should move forward without better safeguards and more public input.

There’s a public hearing happening near you. Join us.
Please call Meg (207-504-6166) to confirm your participation as part of the group concerned about protecting the Gulf from irresponsible industrial fish farming.

Together, we’ll pack the room in:
Houston, Texas
Monday December 10th, 6-9pm

St. Petersburg, Florida
Monday December 10th, 6-9

New Orleans, Louisiana
Tuesday December 11th, 6-9

Biloxi, Mississippi
Wednesday December 12th, 6-9

Mobile, Alabama
Thursday December 13th, 6-9

Thanks to an overwhelming effort by organizations, concerned citizens, fisher men and women, charter boat operators, elected leaders, ocean advocates, academics, and scientists working to keep the Gulf free of dangerous industrial ocean fish farming, the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council has agreed to hold public hearings on their plan for offshore aquaculture. But some Council members still want to move ahead with their plan in January- so now it's time to pack the room and let the Gulf Council know that January is too soon to vote on the livelihoods of Gulf residents!

More information is at Protecting the Gulf from a Dangerous New Industry — Food & Water Watch
Feel free to call Meg anytime at 207-504-6166 with questions.
Please remember to invite others and RSVP. We’ll see you at the hearing!
Contact Meg for more details on these hearings and help spread the word.

I've read your post and the link. Exactly why is this a bad thing? I see only three reasons listed, and no supporting evidence or fact supporting any of them.

Thank you so much for your questions.

Concerns about Offshore Aquaculture are outlined in more detail in the report called “Fishy Farms: The Problems with Open Ocean Aquaculture” at the following link: Fishy Farms — Food & Water Watch.

Also, there is a report called “Offshore Aquaculture: Bad News for the Gulf”
Offshore Aquaculture: Bad News for the Gulf — Food & Water Watch that will give you more information.

In addition to these reports I have a document called “Open Ocean Aquaculture: Myths and Facts” that I would like to share with you. Unfortunately, the small script of the citations in the MS Word document is not visible in this reply box, thus I don’t think it will be show up in the post. Would you like me to send that document to you personally?
