What is the proper size for a neoprene neckseal for a person with a 13.25" neck measurement?

searching through old threads I ran across one post that indicated that the neckseal measurement should be 20% less than the actual neck measurement. Using that guideline would make the neckseal in this case almost 2.5 inches smaller than the persons neck. IMHO that sounds like it would be too tight.

Any thoughts??

Tight enough to keep the water out. I dive mine fairly tight (16.5 inch neck 15 inch neck seal, I can get 2-3 fingers into it when putting it on) a friend dives his very loose, he can get his fist into it and he never get wet.

The problem with standards is the exception. Such as some women can’t get their heads though the seal if it is size properly, they have to go to latex seals on the neck which will stretch more when donning the suit. I have played around with wide velcro straps and such but never very successfully on people with small necks. Get them cut large so they can be reduced not the other way around.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering about somethig like the velcro straps. This for a woman and I also wondered about the seal being too small to fit over her head if it was reduced enough to seal her neck. We may have to send it off for latex seals.

Many of my female drysuit diving buddies and myself, dive with neoprene neck seals for the added warmth. I can't think of any that had a problem with the head to neck size ratio when donning. A couple of the women do wear braids &/or put a cap made of slippery material on to help get their longer hair through the neck seal.

But, given the neoprene neck seal is folded in, a skinny neck and a large head usually isn't a big deal. & you can fold the neck seal in further if needed.
