Welcome Rick. Wow! That was a thorough introduction. You've found a great place to talk with other divers to ask opinions and get new ideas. Hope you can stick around for a while!

I know what u mean about the pricey-ness of this sport. Sigh. I only get to warm water a couple three times a year, so financially I know it does not make sense to own my equipment. But I finally am making the plunge because I've absolutely hated the rental gear I've used--too big, worn out, leaky, etc. Plus every time I have to adjust to a new BC, regulator, etc.

I went to the LDS and he would be able to set me up with basics (BC, reg, octo, and low-end computer) for $1500. I wanted to go with him, but just couldn't afford it. I've been able to get new equipment of equal or better value (much better, in the case of the computer) online for much, much less. Still, if I could afford it, I'd give the LDS my business. :(

I thought I was finishing with my gear purchases, but it sounds like I might just be starting! Still, I'm afraid the equip you're talking about getting is waaay in the future for me! I have to sell a lot of stuff of ebay to cover what I've bought already!

Mmmm. Cozumel..... ! We have complimentary tickets to Cancun that we have to use in the next year. But we're leaning toward Xcalak. Been there? It's fabulous, although not much night life if that's a consideration. For us, it's not.
