So, what's the point of carrying all that gas down there, if you're going to go through it in the same amount of time because you're panting, carrying it all?

Sheesh...

some people will never understand the motivations for tec diving

:D

All the guys snicker at girls with sensible H-valves. ;)

TSandM:
I found the solution to THAT one yesterday. Put the female with the awesome SAC in doubles. It'll go up. I guarantee it.

Toooooo Funnnny !!!

Just remember to pause. Do not hold breath. In otherwords leave the airway open at all times.

The Kraken: That makes perfect sense. I will give it a try next dive. Thanks.

Iowwall: Skip breathing as it was defined to me is when you breathe in and hold it for a few seconds then exhale hold it etc....

Cancun Mark: My buoyancy is good I haven't gone bouncing off the bottom or zinging to the surface yet. There is always next dive though lol

Diver0001: I am not going to get into a pee'n match with you but my question never was define deep / shallow breaths my question was how does that lengthen my tank life.

The Red Head: You are correct my girlfriend has a much better SAC rate than myself she usually ends a dive with at least 200 psi more than I do in my tank. I am 6' pretty solid 240 she's 5'5" ( I don't know her weight she wont tell me LOL ) My breathing is subconscious I just catch my self doing it.

I almost for got to Stop Drop & Roll

Wiat until you try steel doubles and stages, then it will double. :D

I've never noticed that. I notice a big difference if the water is warm enough to wear a light wetsuit instead of the drysuit (drops from 12 to about 9 or so) but the difference between singles and doubles for me is only about 1/2 litre per min.

todays dive was 112 minutes and even with my buddy hanging on my octopus for about 20 minutes to balance out tank pressures the SAC was still only 13,5.

R..

Is that why you wanted to have a "man to man" about it?

First off, it's mano a mano.

he he, I was gonna say....but being a girl and all.....well, the monkeys would be offended.

by minimizing dead space in the ratio, and increasing gas exchange, if optimized.

Doubles and stages create a lot more drag and mass to push through the water, particularly for a woman. My SAC went from a .35-.4 to .7 with double E-7 100s plus an AL 80 stage. It has gotten better with practice and a smaller wing. My first doubles dive was done in a 77 lb wing and it was like steering a mack truck through the water.
