Promote to Article Button?

I noticed the "Promote to Article" button on every post and wonder how it works. Frankly I'm afraid to see what happens when I click on it.

Does just the single post become an article or the whole thread? It doesn't seem right that I can make someone else's post an article, or someone can make one of mine an article. I couldn't find any info on the site.

OK, I did clicked it for my post here. It let me save it but said it was not published. Now what happens? BTW, I don't want to publish it being just a test.

A) you must be a forum mod?
B) only 2 people on SB can publish the articles.

So is clicking on the button a recommendation or suggestion to promote the post to an article?

You can see that button because you are an in the usergroup Author, and thus have the ability to submit articles. Therefore you can also submit other content to be as an article.
