Spoke to Pro Dive and got good compromise. Will e-mail you the details. I found your booking and although can't get refund we have arranged another trip not on standby. No time limit either.

as for the strike, just to confirm, this isn't a normal event so please don't be put off coming to Australia to dive again because of it.

for something extra ordinary Mike Ball is running a special trip at the end of next year which is going up to cape york!

I was in Oz heading for Cairns when the stirke happened. I guess that is why Mike Ball's people suggest trip insurance. i wasn't concerned about the trip, just getting back to the states if the industrial action persisted. Just to be clear, it was not a "strike" as Quantas initiated the action to terminate operations, the union's did not walk out. Heck the pilot's action consisted of wearing non-regulation ties. This was what we in the states call a "lockout" plain and simple.

I will be back in two years. Too bad it can't be sooner. That trip to Cape York seems great. I just finished reading James Woodford's book, The Great Barrier Reef. He has a chapter called "An expedition to Cape York" that really makes the experience sound like a once in a lifetime opportunity. If you go, please give us a full report. Spoilsport was the best.

Sigh.... so frustrating... an experience of a lifetime that i may never experience...

Looks like Aquapro is paving the way for you to go. I waited 20 years to go and have been kicking myself for not going earlier. My advice for what it is worth is to go. You will forget about all the inconvenience once you get there. It is incomparable. And, being Oz, we can understand what they are saying about 95 percent of the time. Then there is the bundaberg rum, beautiful beaches, amazing swimming facilities, great water sports and real friendly people. Get thee to Oz.

I will be back in two years. Only problem with that timing is that my nephew will be graduating from high school at the same time (we hope). I promised him a dive trip for graduation. I had Catalina or maybe Baja in mind. I think he has Oz in mind.

Thats just outstanding service by Kevin @Aquapro coming to an amicable solution for the OP. I had a great experience last time booking through them for Mike Ball and would continue to do so. I understand it is a frustrating thing to happen to the OP enough to put anyone off. However one leaves chance to ruin things if travel insurance is not purchased. I always do to cover liability.

Lmao it's spelt Qantas haha. I actually received my OW from pro dive in Sydney, nice chaps. I'm guessing franchise so varies from place to place but that sucks you missed the gbr. If they're anything like the Sydney pro dive, they would be fair and square with your situation.

Thanks very much for the kind comments :D

At the end of the day all us divers here want to try an help and bad PR doesnt help anyone, so only too willing to help out.

Nitro91 has it right, it is a franchise, but they are a good bunch and although still have a busines to run and therefore have cancellation policies in place to protect them, will also try to help out where they can.

So fingers crossed w0nger can get another trip sorted.

well.. i've made plans to go direct to Cairns in the second half of March... just need to wait a few more days to have my vacation from work approved and i'll be heading back to do the dives! i'm super excited and will contact Kevin once i get firm dates. If the dives work out, i'm going to do a quick stop in Thailand on the way back to Canada and see if i can get some diving there as well! w00t!
