I want to buy my first regulator, and am interested in the Aqua Lung Titan LX 2009. Went to a local dive shop which is an authorized dealer and the instructor/salesman looked at it in the catalogue and said, "That regulator has the ACD. That is definitely gonna fail." Then steered me to a ScupaPro S600 which was ~$250 more.

Has there been any issues with the Aqua Lung ACD that anyone knows of? I have searched these forums and on Google and have not found anything. Was this instructor being less than helpful? What do others here think of this Aqua Lung reg? TIA.

i have an al kegend lx that has 15 dives on it including 4 deep deco dives.
al is known for solidly built products and though ive had this reg fairly recently , the acd does work and looks well built.
like you i havent seen anythin negative on the acd. it was actually one major feature that made me choose the legend.
i came from scubapro and have nothing but good things to say bout their regs. i will actually only use an al or sp reg.
but i think that guy in the store gave you absoluteky wrong info.

The titan is often mentioned as a best buy in regulators. It's probably an ideal choice as a first reg. Having said that, I personally would try to get one without the ACD. I think the aqualung system ACD is opened by mechanical means, not air pressure like the oceanic, and to me that's better. I've never heard of one failing. It does, however, obscure any view of the filter, which to me is really important in terms of inspecting my reg.

opinions are like ass-holes. this guy that told you this doesn't know w.t.f he is talking about.

there is nothing wrong with the ACD of the Aqualung product. I've never heard of a failure. especially on a new reg.

He prob just liked ScubaPro gear better, or was trying to get you to spend another $250 bucks, which prob was an extra $125 profit margin in your pocket.

the Titan LX is a rock solid reg and you won't have any problems with it. (BTW... AL has a rebate/price reduction on the AL regs now. make sure they give that to you and don't screw you. or find another shop).

I bought mine when they first came out and I have never had an issue (2-3? yrs and many, many dives). I absolutely love it. I know a few other people that have one and they too have nothing but good things to say about the reg.

LP should have some reviews - check and see :idk:: http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/UDRLSAR.html

Thanks for all of the good input. I figured he was just biased toward ScubaPro. I will look around for the best deal on this reg.

I have a Legend LX, my wife has a Mikron (yes, it's the pink vanilla) and my son has a Titan...ZERO problems. A friend of mine that services regulators recommended them because of their quality designs and durability and the availability of service/parts while traveling on the rare occurence that something would happen.

the legend is also an overbalanced diaphragm and it therefore breathes as well as or even better than any piston out there.

its environmentally sealed design makes it perfect for cold and dirty water too.

diaphragms are also easier to service and theoreitically break down less because of lesser moving parts and parts not directly exposed to water.

i was choosing between the al legen lx and a scubapro mk25/g250.

the overbalanced diaphragm and the acd was the main reason i chose the legend.
just some things that may help you make your decision.
good luck
