Yeah, yes. Don't dismiss people's opinions like that. It's rude, and it's for no reason, since the OP was asking not about a continuous webbing system like the Halcyon Eclipse, but a Transpac.
Just because you personally like/need things between your legs does not mean others do. I have done well over one million hours in every version of the Transpac ever made, and have dove everywhere in the world twice.
But seriously, I have owned, and worn out every version of the Transpac made. I have done some diving with a crotch strap but if the gear is cinched right, the crotch strap is not necessary, espeically with the switch to the thin shoulder webbing harness plates on the Transpac a few years ago. Remember the OP mentioned a Transpac, and not a Halcyon Eclipse, and that may help you understand the difference. Not everyone likes or need their gear snug. I like it snug and need it snug. Or more correctly I like it adjustable with the potential for snug since I have to get in and out of my gear in the water daily (another reason not wear a crotch strap).
Continuous webbing harness cannot be, (or for that matter should not be) tightened enough to eliminate the ride-up, and so they need a crotch strap. A Transpac can, however, be snugged enough to eliminate ride up for many divers. Plenty of people are fine with not cinching down the Transpac because they prefer the looser fit like a continuous webbing harness, or they are just used to that looser fit because they came from BP/Ws , and thus use the crotch strap. Others use crotch straps only in wetsuits,
And still others, like me, hate crotch straps, and find them chafing and uncomfortable. For the same reason that continous webbing harnesses without extensive padding in general are chafing and uncomfortable for those people. Few working divers who have fought through a rashes and infection like bare webbing anywhere. (Bare webbing like in either continuous webbing BP/W or crotch straps). And they tend to think no webbing should be anywhere near their soft pink bits, be they between the leg danglies or skin anywhere. Cummerbunds, shoulder pads, back pads etc. are not niceties but requirements for them. And that's why they chose the Transpac in the first place. It's not for everyone, partly because you have to buy the right size, unlike continuous harness systems which can be made th right size.
On the separate fit issue, you personally may not care if your rig slops around on you, and you may think it's okay if it does. For those sorts of people. a crotch strap is the way you have to go to keep the gear from riding up on you. I hate the rig slopping around on me so I use adjustable harness and snug it up to eliminate slop, for fit purposes, and that also eliminates the need for crotch straps for me.
Of course, since you seem to know what everyone does when diving, maybe I am wrong about what I do when diving. I do do it for a living, but I guess I am doing it wrong. But my gear does say DiveRite on it. So maybe I am doing it right.
Either way, try to be nicer.
