Primary as Octo?

I use two identical second stages, no colored plates or hoses. Unless I'm diving sidemount, anyone needing gas is going to get the regulator from my mouth and I'll go to an identical one on the necklace.
 
Servicing your regs is simpler if both second stages are the same brand, so you know any shop that can service one can service both.

If it's a question of money, the reg you may need in an emergency situation is not the one you want to scrimp on. You will want it to perform at least as well as the one you use the most. Either of my second stages is suitable for use as a primary, and sometimes it even seems like my octo is the easier breather of the two. Spend a little extra, and you'll have the rest of your life to be glad you did.
