Don't let it get you down... she's a spinner, not necessarily a cyclist... spinning don't mean jack when it's time to climb, or when you are dodging through traffic and bunny hopping potholes. I know a lot of spinners who can't ride at all, let alone well.

I am old, slow and fat, and I can still outride half the spinners I know out in real life...

Spinning is great for fitness, but it isn't cycling.

help me out here but will anyone argue with this ideal:

"spinning is a place, riding is an activity"

Just a question : do you take greater pride in who you are as a diver, or your profession/work ?
Husband.

Father.

Profession.

Diver.

WOW, I just read one of the easiest posted questions in another thread ... than this popped up ... i'm going to whine for a second ... "your question isn't a fair question, it leaves too much open for individual interpretation, waaaaaaaaaa!"

ok ... so that being said, I don't really understand the question. someone above gave their interpretation of the question before answering ... so i decided to take it one step further ...

dictionary.com gives 13 definitions of pride ... and i would guess that some people are stuck on the negativity of pride ... but definition #4 states: pleasure or satisfaction taken in something done by or belonging to oneself ...

well i highly doubt there is even one member of scubaboard that this statement would not apply to using the word pride in this definition:
"I take pride in scuba" meaning: pleasure or satisfaction in something done by oneself.

also, i love my job(S). i feel i am very good at what i do (in all 4 of them) , and although i have received accolades in three out of four of them, i feel i have much room for improvement in all 4. i teach, coach, caddy, and work as a prof diver. (i love all four and don't truly NEED to do any of them. caddying is even stressful on my shoulders and back. but the fact is i take pride in all of them when using the definition from above. i LOVE what i do.)

return to the original question. which do i take more pride in, my jobs or diving ... simple, one of my jobs is diving ... so i can't justly take part in the discussion ... muhahahahahaha

"Pride cometh before the fall...."

Just about the time one becomes excessively proud of what they are or what they do, something usually happens that provides a true wake-up call. Therefore, I avoid it when I can.

However, to answer the question....neither. I work more on my faith, family, and relationships. But if I was to make a choice, it would have to be profession. Let me see...having a possitive impact on a few thousand kids or the activity I do essentially for ME. Hmmmm....no comparison there.

I'm proud of what I do for a living...every night, I put my life on the line in order to go save someone else's life.

However, about a year or so ago, all I had in my life was work. I lived, breathed, ate, and slept EMS. Unfortunately, this had things fairly out of balance. After, a rough day in which I had two back-to-back pediatric cardiac arrests, I realized that I needed a hobby to relieve the stress, or else I was gonna go crazy (at least, crazier than my normal baseline of craziness).

So, as far as whether I take greater pride in my profession or my hobby? Truthfully, I think I take greater pride in my profession. There are people who wouldn't be walking this earth right now if not for a paramedic's intervention.

However, scuba diving is what keeps me mentally healthy and able to get on the ambulance each night with a smile on my face.

So, while I take greater pride in my job, I think I value scuba diving more, if that makes any sense.

What the hell is 'spinning'?

are you on crack? ... that means people actually enjoy spinning (on a stationary bike)

:rofl3:

:rofl3: Well ... just a guess.... but I'd say more people enjoy masturbation than spinning but you would be surprised what turns some people's crank.... :)
