Im thinking of taking an upcoming IDC and I was wondering what the going rate is. Ya, I know it varies blah blah blah. What do you think is a fair price?

its hard to say whats a fair price. The reason most IDC's vary is because most centres that run them offer different packages. EG- some stores might offer an IDC prep weekend for free, Some may offer free manuals and coursework etc, and i guess its up to you what you're looking for. I dunno the standard price in the US$, but i'd say your talking up to about $1500 or so.

Maybe at least an area of the world you are thinking of will help with some costs...and blah blah blah or not - double check exactly what you are getting...had two divers last year who got completely done over on theirs -ended up costing them more than $400 US more than the other local operator offered as standard course (Indo) because they didn't read the fine print nor know what materials etc were mandatory.

a general rule of thimb is about $100 USD per day for diver training which makes IDC's about a thousand bucks, but it really depends on what is included. Dont be fooled into just going for the cheapest either. Discount education is something to be avoided, especially at the professional levels.

Have a look at the info pack in my sig line and compare it to other programs you may have seen. Whatever you do, do some good research and make sure you choose your CD well. Education is an investment that quickly pays for itself..

Average I've seen is $1000-1300 for the course, plus $400-500 for materials plus $450 for the IE. I've come across a CD that will accompany instructor candidates to RSM and have charge their hotel room, travel, and meals to the students. So $2000 for all costs has been about the average.

OK thanks, what I was quoted is in the ballpark. Fitting into my schedule is more important than price anyway. I just can't take two weeks off to do something I may never use. But if I can work it in, I may use it. I just don't realy like this dive shop but it's the only one that is going to do what I need done. Thanks for the input.

I would suggest you find a shop you like before you embark on this. It's a big commitment, time and money, and you should be happy with your choice of instructors. I've looked quite a bit and the final decision was based on the CD, and you know what, the CD worked around my schedule.

I couldn't agree more!
