HES AN UNDER COVER CONVERT! I'VE HEARD ABOUT THESE PEOPLE! They go around trying to covert people to the ways of the organization known as (flinch) DIR! Seriously, I'm suprised we've gone this long without mentioning the D-word. If I were you I'd dive it DIMY. Dive-It-My-Way. I doooove it myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy.....

I read this post and all the replies....... some real good advice here.....

My small addition is to look back over what everyone is telling you and realize why..... This is a very difficult dive - more than you think Im sure.

Id like to suggest you go to :

Take a look around....

Like I have said, this is a tough dive, but not impossible. It's not something for a novice diver to try, but it's something for an intermediate diver to aspire to, train and plan for. I'm willing to put in the time, effort, and, money to make it happen. And once we got past people asking if I was trying to kill myself, the information that has been trickiling in and the discussion on this dive have been excellent.

I know I need to take some deep diving training on scuba. Training on caving as well. And I need experience on both. The biggest obstacle that I can think of is to find three other divers who are willing to do this dive with me. When I say, "do this dive," I am refering to the training, the expense, and the time required not just jumping in the water and going for a swim. I have a number of people that I think would love to do the support dives, but of the people I know that would make the dive, there are very few that I would trust to make the traverse with me. Unfortunately the one diver that I would feel fully comfortable trying this with blew out an ear drum, Construction accident not diving related, and has had trouble diving below 30' since that happened. He will be assisting me in building the equipment though. He is one of the better engineers I have ever met, and there is little that we could not build between us.

It may very well take me longer than the year I had originally anticipated to get ready, but this is I dive I eventually want to do. I love diving on wrecks, and I see this as possibly the ultimate wreck dive.

There's nothing wrong with DIR, I may never be a DIR diver, but to do this dive I will be relying heavily on their techniques. I will do it my way, mainly because I will be doing it. But to shoot down DIR because they take diving far more seriously than most recreational divers does not make sense. Consider that DIR divers do some of the riskier dives, and break 'ground' for others.

It would make sense, I think, to classify DIR'ers as their own type of diver, they are not recreational, and they are not commercial, they are a sort of related cousin of both. And just as the others have their own particular quirks and methods unique to themselves, so do the DIR'ers.

I do not think everyone should be a DIR'er, the average casual recreational diver would quickly find themselves completely overwhelmed and give up diving under the DIR system, and they are unlikely to need to know penetration techniques to look at fish and coral, but the DIR system has a lot to teach the rest of us.

The only difference between DIMY and DIR is that DIMY does not support overhead enviroments. I like the DIRF. I dive long hose. I've tried the spend 3 minutes to desend 10feet, hover for 3 minutes, descend and so on down to 40 feet and back up again. Then for a repepitive dive I did it with my mask off. I'd heard this had happened on the DIRF course so I tried it out. Anything I hear that happens on the DIRF course what I can try out, trust me, I will. I'm just not a fan of overhead and that is the only trouble I have with DIR.

Full respect go's to all DIR divers and no offence was meant.

I love overhead diving... It's probably a character flaw. :eyecrazy: Though it may have something to do with watching a guy dump a bunch of steel over the side with a diver in the water. :bash:

Oooops. Maybe saying that I don't like overhead was a lie. I like caverns!

Guys......

Im not a 'DIR diver', I have not been through their training... - I simply have the book, and the DVD set. I did not yet see it mentioned and thought Id bring it up.... look at the Wakula Springs dive they did..... that is what you call an advanced dive......and thats the sort of planing and prep that I feel should be used - especially this type of wreck dive......I also feel a lot of the notes listed in this thread apply.....some real good advice here...... I almost killed myself 10 years ago going past my current skill level - I was well prepared though and made it out ok (cave) I learned a VERY valuable lesson though - work your way up to a skill level.....dont skip step it..... I skip stepped and almost payed a price....

Thanks....

I'VE GOT IT....I think

(do not use this as a dive plan.. for example only..)
