Amazing how much mine looks like it
Aloha Shoredivers

No - neither of us copied the other, though I'm guessing we both used the same template in dreamweaver

Anyone familiar with them? I do like their dive site listing - and they have a few sites I've not included in my listing yet.

Aloha, Tim

Yes... Jerry teaches mostly on the south shore, I think.

I'm not sure if he's currently affiliated with a hotel operation, or strictly independent at the moment.

My questions would be; does he have proper permits to conduct business at all those shore dive sites and from what commercial charter boat with a permit does he dive Molokini??

Welcome to the socialist country of XYZ. Here we decide who may do business and who may not......free market democracy...lol I think not.

I know who Jerry Derrick is, and I did a few intro dives w/ him back in 2003. I had tried to get certified before our Feb., 2003 trip, but didn't make it ( I needed more practice time on the skills). So when we came to Maui, I did lots of intro dives. At the time he was w/ Maui Dive Shop. He was a wonderful instructor, and it was great to do the intro dives w/ him, out in the OCEAN (even if it was only 40' deep!) as opposed to having only been in a POOL. Bob was allowed to come w/ us, too. I was able to get certified a month or so after we left Maui. Maggi :)

EDIT: Looks like this post has been modified while I was making my comments. Thanks MOD!

Can we please get back to the original topic about Primier Scuba? I know Jerry, he's a good guy and he does have many years of experience here on Maui. I've never seen him in trouble in the water with people and I think his guests all walk away happy with their experience. I don't know what his permit situation is but let's just all agree here that the permit situation here on Maui is bad and getting worse.

As I recall, Jerry and I both were accidentally bit on our fingers by moray eels only a week apart in January of 2000. (So I've known him for at least that long.) We even compared wounds at the time and I think that's when I officially met him (other than passing by on the reef or beach parking lot). Just in case you're wondering how the scars turned out, I superglued my finger back together while he got 8 to 10 stitches. I think my scar ended up prettier than his and I was back in the water in less than a week. Ask him to show you his eel bite if you dive with him. I'm sure he's happy to tell you the story of how it happened, I know I am about mine.

So Tim, did you e-mail him back to comment about the similarities on your sites yet? Don't you know Jerry? He's been around quite a while, I would think you would have at least seen him around with all the diving you do. Anyway, he's OK in my book and I'll bet he's just struggling along like the rest of us in the dive biz. I don't figure he's getting any special breaks from the government here either but he's probably trying to be as legit as he can considering the situation.

Just my .02 and I shouldn't even be reading SCUBABOARD today! I'm still on vacation!!!!

Thanks Doug - No, I'd not met him before which is why I wondered if he might be new around here or something (Actually I'm the new guy around here - lol) I did email him back, but have not heard from him again. I'll ask around at the LDS - it would be fun to run into him and do some diving together. Glad to hear the kind words about him from you too :)

Eel bites are no fun ... thus I've tried avoiding them so far. A buddy got bit twice the other day when he was carrying one up to show the guests on Reefdancer ... fortunately it was a zebra - so no teeth :)

Aloha, Tim
