I just wanted to post about the great experience I just had at my LDS (MTSS in Cool springs, TN). I'm ging to be diving in colder water that I had before next weekend so ran down to my LDS to get some advice on exposure protection with the plan of laying down some $$ for a 7mm suit. They have a customer loyalty program that gives discounts based on reward points. Instead of pushing me to spend $$ on a new suit and use the poits to get some $$ off they guided me towards an option that with the reward points ended up being free.

Kudos to them for putting their customer needs first and not just selling me something that was more than I needed to make some $$.

They have made getting into Diving a great and easy experience with their help and knowledge.

P.S. I don't work for them but I do work in Customer support and know that giving positive feedback is just as important as negative feedback.

Nice to hear and intriguing, what did they actually do for you?

They advised against buying a new 7mm suit and recommended a hooded vest to layer with what I already have

In short:
New 7mm suit = $400+ - with VIP points $200+
Hooded Vest = $150 - with VIP points FREE
Feeling like the customer was put first = Priceless :)

That was a good piece of guidance!

Hooded vests are outstanding enhancements to fullsuits. As you have experienced it's not just the extra layer of rubber on your torso but also the back zipper seepage blockage as well as effectively eliminating the neck opening as a point of water entry/exit.

Now that I thnk of it, what hooded vest sells for $150?

just did a *quick* search... scuba.com has the following:

"HENDERSON 5/3MM HYPERSTRETCH TITANIUM HOODED VEST
Starting at $145.60"

They have alot of much cheaper ones as well.....

The Henderson was the one I ended up with :) I was rounding numbers for tax and illustration purposes...the joyous 9.25% we have here in TN. The scubapro 7mm semi-dry is right around 400 so were quite a few others I was looking at online.

I *hate* TN Tax.. I live in VA, and all 3 of my "local" dive shops are across the border on the TN side... and by local, I mean 45 minutes to 1 hr drive..

I *think* the closest one to me in Virginia is almost to Roanoke.. =(

Would invite you for a dive.. but you aren't on my end of the state ;)

Take care and have fun with the hooded vest,
