Yecch- I hate the Yankees and thier bloated payroll almost as much as I hate the NY rangers (see above reason). I'd rather see the Cubs win.

While I'm being so honest....don't tell anyone...Im going out for Chicago style deep dish pizza tonight :worried:

Cobaltbabe- I highlt recommend you dive as much as possible this weekend.

You did get your tanks filled before the power went out, didn't you :hithead:

Thank goodness and the SO is coming down to visit so that will keep me busy. :D

Well since your going out for some deep dish, I am going to cut the main circuit breaker in my house so we can live like you people out in the East coast. You know, make us feel more united. I just dont feel the unity anymore.

I really don't think I am going to see the Cubs win the world series in my time......I really don't care, but it would be cool to see.

...it gets mentioned in every thread so I figured why not.

Well then, you'll have to grab a couple of Old Styles too.

Jason- Yes, it's like were long lost brothers or something now- LOL. Let me know when you're coming over for dinner and some diving.

Cobaltbabe- Full tanks and your significant other? Sounds like you've got a couple of entertainment options going for the weekend :tease:

Xjae- If "grabbing some old styles" means drinking copious amounts of alcohol then yes, mission accomplished ;)

Goodnight all. Going to sleep ridiculously late, then do some afternoon pier diving.

.. I was going to jump up on my soap box about how this power outage was caused by corporate greed but I won't. Your explanation was great. We didn't have a system blink here in Texas but we did have a suicidal squirrell take out three customers here in town at about 4:25! May he rest in pieces.

Don't get off your soapbox just yet...it remains to be seen WHY the power outage occurred. It could have been something like a squirrel or a raccoon which pretty much leaves nothing left of the animal, or it could be because of a lack of funding for basic maintenance...which could be your corporate greed smoking gun.

Right now they are leaning towards transmission lines which is where most of the neglect in funding over the last decade has been. There is just no profit to be made in maintaining those big power lines. The last decade saw companies pouring money into power plants, but only doing minimal maintenance on the transmission lines. This is due to the govt not allowing them to make a "decent" return on the investment in the lines. There was simply more money in the building of new power plants.

Unfortunately, now we have an aging power grid, and a lot of power that has to be moved around on it.

I think the start of the outage will boil down to some act of nature or of God, but right now I think the extent of the actual outage will be blamed on equipment malfunction (protective relays not functioning correctly to limit the spread of the outage) or possibly to human error.
