We just returned from a La Paz dive trip. Our group stayed at Club Cantamar and did our diving off Club Cantamar boats. We were diving there October 1-3, 2014.
General La Paz Area Observations
Damage from Odile was evident in the La Paz area, but businesses are up and running. The La Paz Malecon area was in good shape when we were there.
Club Cantamar?
We were the first big group to stay at Club Cantamar post-Odile. Power to the hotel was restored just before we arrived.
Club Cantamar is up and running. Their pool was still a mess while we were there, but substantial progress was being made towards cleaning it up. I heard no complaints from anyone in our group about rooms not having electricity, hot water or AC. Personally, the AC unit in our room about froze us out a couple of times.
The meals we ate at Club Cantamar were very good. Breakfasts were remarkably good.
Several of the buildings sustained roof damage and some of the boats in the marina were damaged by the storm as well. There is a houseboat in the marina which was being held-up by the dock it was tied to.
My wife and I did some clean-up on the beach area. I suspect stuff will continue to wash up there from the storm for a while.
The Diving
Some of the coral on several of the dive sites we used had sustained storm damage. Sea conditions were a bit bumpy and made for an interesting ride at times. There are advantages to diving from a good-sized boat.
We did our dives on some really good sites. Water temps were in the 85 degree range. The guides (Edgar, Marie & Daniel), who accompanied us on the Club Cantamar boats, were excellent.
Overall, my experience was really enjoyable. Fun stuff!
