Hi Ladies,

I have fairly sensitive skin and it seems like evertime I dive with my hood in the local lakes my skin breaks out just terrible a few days after the dive.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tip on how I can prevent or lessen how often this occurs.

I think it may have something to do with the hood since I really didn't breakout after diving in St. Lucia w/o my hood.

Thanks in Advance for your help!

I don't use a hood, but I do have trouble with skin break outs on other areas that are covered with neoprene.

I don't have a perfect solution, but I've found that thoroughly cleaning the area, preferably with a mild exfoliant followed by an astringent, then drying thoroughly, and then moisturizing as soon as possible after the dive seems to help.

I have the same problem too! I had terrible breakouts on my chin, and it took me a few months to put 2 + 2 together and realize that it was my hood causing the problem.
I tried a bunch of different things, but what really seemed to stop the problem was 1. washing my face as soon as I came home using Neutrogena. 2. Using Olay Regenerist serum after that.
The Olay Regenerist stuff has been awesome!! It's a little expensive, but certainly worth the price - my face is (almost) completely clear even though I've been diving more than usual lately.

Sounds like a neoprene allergy. A friend of mine has it and he applies a thin layer of silicon grease around his face, wrists and ankles and it has stopped his breakouts. He first tried Vasoline but petroleum products will ruin the silicone skirt on masks.

is it grit and guck that gets trapped inside the suit, then rubbed into the pores of the body?

Inless it's a general rash, I'm more inclined to suspect the latter.
