Hello all, I have the opportunity to move to STT to work and finish school. But I also have been offered positions in Wilmington and Morehead City, NC. Right now my wife is pulling for Morehead. I need to get info to change her mind! I have never been to the USVI, but look forward to a move there. We lived in the UK in Yeovil for quite a while while I was on contract there and she hated it, she got very homesick. She is worried this will be more of the same. She read that STT drives on the left side which she isn't fond of, and then a friend of hers who lives on Trinidad started griping about island living and the isolation of being on the island all the time.

As for me, I have had extended stays in Hawaii and UK and have had no "island fever" I actually love it. I am studying Marine Biology and already have a degree in Criminal Justice/Public Administration. I can not think of another place I would rather study. So all of you help me convince my better half that STT is the place to go, BUT I would like to hear the downside too, I don't want to go into this with rose colored glasses on! Thanks

well, island fever is always a concern. luckily, STT is close enough to the other VIs and Puerto Rico that it's easy to get a little break from the same people/things for a few days. I've been on St. Croix for almost 4 years now, and it's very difficult for me to go back and spend any time in the states. the way people view their every day life is much different here. as soon as I step off the plane going back to the states (only twice in four years) I can almost feel the stress and anxiety radiating off of people... it's very depressing.
STT and St. Croix are VERY different places, however. STT is busy, there's traffic, cruise ships and rude/oblivious tourists everywhere, and much more of a state side mentality. the upside is, the laid back St. John and the BVIs are short ferry rides away, so it's easy to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the "business island". driving on the left is not an issue. you get used to it within a few days. it's dodging chickens, mongoose and deer here in STX that's the problem...
check out VImovingcenter.com. that's where I got most of my info when starting to investigate the move. hope this helps, feel free to PM me any time if you have any questions.
