I have a posiden Xstream of a friends that when the purge is pushed it really, REALLY purges alot of air. I have not dove this thing yet and wanted to see if this was normal. I checked the output pressure of the 1st stage and it is set at about 140psi. The burst of air is short but powerful, almost like getting direct tank pressure air. The thing will blow your cheeks out like Louis Armstrongs cheeks! Help please, Bell47.

IP on a Poseidon Xtream should be set to about 125 psi if memory serves me correctly (I don't have access to my service manual at home, where I am right now).

Due to the design of the second stage it is quite normal for there to be a hugh WHOOSH of air when you purge it. Jetstreams are the same way. Cyklons are not--they purge like "normal" regulators do.

...yep, I don't own an XTREME, but do own a number of Jetstreams, and that's 'normal' for them to have a healthy purge.....now that you know what to expect, no need to hold the purge down long, just a little 'tap' will do the trick.

Bell47,

Certainly you mean Dizzy Gillespie, not Louie…. ;-)

Yep. Perfectly normal. I own a Jetstream and if you purge it while in your mouth you might blow your brains out... Press the purge button very gently and the flow will be a bit less. Anyway, I love my reg... very much easy air while very deep.

Those things purge like nothing else I've ever seen. I borrowed my fiance's X-treme for cave training and both my hapless budy and me almost blew our lungs out during the first couple of OOA drills. I was too keyed up to remember the pre-dive admonition that I should approach the X-treme's purge button the same way porcupines procreate...very carefully!
