i did my ckeck outs there in early july and i liked it the fish are large and fun to feed. lots to see at the bottom im looking for someone to dive with that sunday, but sun is the 29th...let me know which day your going and ill try to get a couple of the people in my scuba club to go

Portage is indeed a fun place to dive. There are tons of sunken 'wrecks' to dive. Visibility can range from 30+ to nil. It all depends on the weather leading up to the weekend and how many classes. But, even with low vis Portage can be fun. Most every item is mapped. You can navigate to the sites given the map and the number of targets.

I have dove Portage for years. One day I was in the water early and the vis was near endless. I saw things I never knew existed! So there's enough that near everyone can find something new on any given dive.

If you don't find anyone you could go scrapbooking with me. ;)
Now that is quite the offer Ray, just gather up your both of your wheeled carts loaded with paper, stickers, beads, rivets, die cutters, double sided photo safe glue. Grab your pictures that you have put together in a special folder pre-sorted by page and then get together with a group of people who try and out do each other by owning more equipment then the other. Oh kind of sounds like diving.

Run Ray Run!

The vis at Portage has been bad this year. In varying local spots there has been a suspended layer of sediment that reminds me of milk. Don't know what it is exactly but they do have a swimming beach that gets screened and raked and probably dumps limestone particles in the quarry. As far as being a fun place, that depends on your expectations. You'll have to hunt to find 60' and there are enough sunken items to interest you for a day or two. Depending on the weather the weekends can get crowded with non divers.

I'm afraid I don't know what scrapbooking is.

Basically, putting together fancy photo albums.

& ya'll thought SCUBA was my most expensive hobby. A few years ago it was but once you have too much gear it gets much cheaper.

It is quite funny, though. While most people are scrapbooking their families and kids, I'm scrapbooking shipwrecks and dive sites. My Truk scrapbook is to die for!!!!

& sorry for the highjack. Back to Portage conditions.
