I'm looking for a portable pocket that I can put my smb, signal mirror, and a whistle in. Nothing too big... about 6"-7" long, 4"-5" wide. I'd like the option to strap it to my leg or bcd. I've looked but really haven't found the right thing yet.

Has anyone run across something like this?

Dive Rite makes one, 2" strap that goes up around your BC belt strap and a couple of velcro and elastic straps that go around your thigh.

I am going to be trying an idea I have had for an leg style cargo pocket when I go diving later this month in Flroida. Not sure if it will work but I thought I would share my idea and see what you think. I just started diving an weight integrated BCD which has given me back my waist. I work in law enforcment and wear a lot of tactical gear including pouches which mount to a nylon belt and drop down to secure to my leg with straps. I am thinking the nylon belt and these pouches could be used for storing stuff like signal mirror, glow sticks, light, and the misc. whatever stuff you dont want in your bcd. Just an idea, i'll let you know how it goes next month.

By all means, pls let me know what works best. I'm looking to get the bulky stuff out of my bcd and into a more manageable pocket or some sort. Not sure whether to attach it to my leg or to the bcd.

Most add-on pockets rely on a waist strap (like your weight belt, or the waist strap on a backplate harness) as the (top) point of attachment. Lots of those on the market. You mention a BCD - is it a jacket style without a waist strap, or a weight-integrated unit, with smaller pockets (and no waist strap)? Another option would be shorts (X-Shorts) with pockets attached, that you can wear over your wetsuit. Try a search on SB for comments on these - most people who try therm really like them. One thread may help get you started (http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/accessories/247072-new-x-shorts.html)

Dive Rite makes a pocket like this, and I have one which I bought on the basis of similar logic to yours. In concept, great idea. In practice, for whatever reason, the DR pocket tends to migrate to the front of the thigh rather than remaining positioned laterally.

Thanks,... my BCD is a weight integrated jacket. The best solution is to find a pocket that could strap or clip onto the jacket and be somewhat streamlined to reduce drag. I find the pockets on my BDC to be too small and uncomfortable to inflate with bulky items in them esp with an SMB, mirror, light and whistle. Most of what I've seen are weight pouches, but I suppose they would work just as well.

Zeagle makes a nice pocket for $18.00. It has draining fabric, an connection grommet and the choice of 1 inch or 2 inch webbing for attachment. I had the same issue. I wanted to take some stuff with me, like chem-lites, strobe, extra sausage, rescue sreamer etc.

i have a dive rite horizontal pocket with webbing loops on the back to thread through a harness. i've heard lots of folks say the pockets that strap to your thighs are a pita, but i don't know if the one like i have would be possible to put on a bc.
