I'm looking at the Apeks XTX50 second with DS4 first stage. In comparisons, it shows it has a single hp versus other models that have 2 hp ports.

Can someone shed light on how 1 versus 2 hp ports factors into my setup?

Two things come to mind. Hose routing is one - does the hose route the way you want it to out of the single port or is it better suited for your needs out of the other port. For most rec single tank divers this is not a problem. The other is if you want to use an air intergrated computer with a seperate transmitter and a SPG at the same time, if so you will need 2 ports. From a performance standpoint, it makes no difference.

In the vast majority of cases, you only need one HP port on a first stage regulator.

Some people need two HP ports. These folks like to use a wireless air-integrated wrist computer. A wireless transmitter is installed on one HP port. Since these wireless systems are prone to losing connectivity, a traditional analog SPG is installed on the other HP port as a backup.

I don't think the wireless air-integrated computer is worth it, so I don't have one. All of my first stages have two HP ports...but one always stays plugged.

Hope this info helps...

agree with the transmitter. if you really want to go down that route, consider a suunto cobra 3 instead. very reliable and saves u carrying a computer/compass on your wrist.
