Would like to go to PNG next year. How dangerous is Port Moresby for a single traveler? All info appreciated.

Honestly Port Moresby (or pom to the locals) is not that bad as long as you have some common sense. Don't antagonize or give anyone a reason to get fired up, don't stare, accept their cultures and customs as it is there country (a lot of people are weirded out by the spitting of beetlenut juice, or buia in pidgen). Same for traveling anywhere really. Most fuzzy wuzzys are very friendly as long as you show them some respect. If your staying at a hotel have a chat to reception they will advise you if areas and clubs/pubs to avoid. I was there for 3 months and loved it. Didn't do any diving though :(
When are you planning in going, and is it specifically for diving?? I'm planning a trip there for next year too!!!

As above. Moresby is your jump off place for diving, avoid the local nightclub, if you go to the markets at boirama (sp?) keep your hands in your pockets and dont stagger around drunk at night. If you need to go out the Yacht club does a decent meal, there was and hopefully still is a great asian restaurant in the basement of the buildings down by the doc and dont stare at people. Basically keep yourself to yourself and dont go exploring back alleys and if you do see the raskols running amok, stay out of it and get back to your hotel.

FWIW Papuans are some of the nicest people ive ever met and have wonderful hearts and culture - if you are going there for diving your time in Moresby should be pretty limited anyway. Where are you diving? Alotoa/Milne bay was awesome.

Considering Walindi Resort and the Febrina next Apr. or May.

Each time I've been I've just stayed and dove at Loloata just outside Moresby. Incredible diving and allows you to avoid staying in the city.

Port Moresby is not without its challenges, but my opinion is that the dangers to divers passing through is not significant provided you use your common sense.

I have written a dedidicated page on my site about it if you would like to read more: Diving Papua New Guinea: Is It Safe To Go There?

There is also a lot of information on diving around Port Moresby and the many other locations in PNG.

. Thank you.I will start planning for next year

We stayed and dove at Walindi over the Christmas week last year. It was amazing from start to finish. The Febrina wasn't running during that time, and that's a great reason to go back.....
Our connections through POM where very tight, so we did not experience much there. It all worked out though, except that our suitcases arrived at Walindi 24 hours after we did. But the staff took care of it and lend us dive gear at no charge for the first day :)
I can highly recommed Walindi!
