The night markets are on the Esplanade and in the middle of the main street along the water front. You can not miss it, and it is also the area where the restaurants are concentrated.
It is one of the main areas of Cairns.
There is also the Pier as well, and you can see this from the Esplanade and walk it. It is only a couple hundered metres at best.
In the evening you can also go to the
Tjapukai By Night. It is an Aboriginal dance show and dinner tour. http://www.tjapukai.com.au/nightshow.html
Or there is the night tour to the zoo which includes dinner and the zoo visit.

Cairns is a small town but larger then Port Douglas. At night there are the restaurants, casino, markets etc but it is a small town. It doesnt have the night life that say Sydney or Melbourne has.
