Why so many Pop Up Ads on the website? Are these Ads paying the monthly bill to maintain SB running?

I've been red for awhile, and get copious amounts of pop-up ads. In fact, the ads cover more browser territory than the content.

how? - never mind, you need to be a sponsor or paying member to select the block adds in the profile

I get no plopup adverts. But I use a different browser - Brave.
