To stop pop-ups: Popupstopper by Panicware http://www.panicware.com/

Anti-spyware software: Spybot Search & Destroy http://security.kolla.de/

The above are BOTH free shareware.

For more info on this type of stuff take a look at Kim Komando's site: ( http://www.komando.com/). She has great picks on all types of good software, most of which is free.

Good luck!

Try these programs

Ad-aware

SpybotSD

Thanks, I just loaded ad-aware. Should I load the other programs too or should I just wait and see what happens?

If I were you, I'd wait and see. By installing yet another pop-up disabling application they could be a slight chance that they may conflict with one another.

Hopefully they're freeware or you might get a "Please Register" pop-up. Hmm, and I thought the program was supposed to disable pop-ups. Anyways........

The Ad-aware must be working. I haven't had a pop-up since I loaded ad-aware.

They used come at me like dive bombers especially first thing in the morning when I turned on my computer.

Remind me to buy you a tank of air if we ever go diving together.

Leave the fancy bloatware for the luddites. www.mozilla.com, replace Internet explorer with with it. It's a great browser with an awesome assortment of features. Basic ones include a popup blocker (can be configured to allow certain ones like your banks login scrips to show up). I've used it for a long time and can't remember the last time I saw an unwanted popup. Another great feature is 3rd party image blocker (no more ads on the webpages you view) and a "per session" cookie manager. All cookies die when you close your browser. For the more advanced users, it supports tabbed browsing, if you have not tried this way of browsing, you won't go back once you do.
Yes they do have a windoze port for you M$ folks :-)

Cheers
