Last week was the worst conditions I've seen in a long time. I was hoping a week of calm water would clear things up a bit. It was better than last week, but still dark and dirty.

We tried to dive at Merry's Reef but called the dive after five minutes. We couldn't find the wall, even though I knew we were within twenty feet of it. We finished off our tanks at Golf Ball Reef where the visibility was a cloudy twelve feet with a moderate current. Many of the animals were hiding during the poor visibility but a few allowed us to take their pictures.

Poor conditions really depress me. I guess sometimes you just need to give yourself a hug.

Great Octopus Captures! My gills are oh'so dry :)

Here's a capture from this week up in my Great Northern Play-Land. Were doing a 3000 acre prescribed burn in the park:

What kind of egg casing is that?

I do understand your pain. We had weeks in April where it simply wasn't worth getting in the water. That's why I want to learn to kayak.

Swell shark. I see plenty of Horn sharks on the local reefs but very few swell sharks. The funny thing is, I see about ten times the number of swell shark eggs vs. horn shark eggs.

Great photos. What are the white things in the photo above the octopus? I saw some of them at Anacapa today.

Looks like kellet's whelk eggs to me.

Conditions were great at Anacapa yesterday, 24 May 2014. Horizontal viz easily 40-ft, calm, hardly any current or surge. There was even a bit of thermocline too. Temp was high 50sF to low 60sF.

We dived at Canyons, Goldfish Bowl and Cathedral Cove.

What boat were you on? We were on the Spectre.
