Hey guys, I have access to a 10' deep pool whenever I would like to use it. What skills do y'all recommend practicing while in there? Right now it's been buoyancy, running a reel and shooting an smb.

If it helps I'm diving a single tank, bp/w, 2 reels, smb, knife, slate, 10w can light and a backup light.

Thanks!

I also practice equipment drop, propulsion exercises and because my pool is very large - I do navigation and night dive exercises.

For me it'd be surprise mask removal drills, but it seems like you have a lot of dives under your belt, so maybe that's a non-issue. I only say that because I think that the slow, prepared, measured and step by step mask R&R taught in classes doesn't really prepare one for having it kicked off by someone...

Add mask flood and clear and remove and replace, all while in the water column, neutral, and without changing buoyancy or trim. Also, if you have a pool buddy, air sharing drills under the same constraints.

Drill a hole in a brick or lead block and put a stick in it. Practice hovering with one fingertip on the stick. See how long you can go without moving anything. When this gets easy, try it with your NOSE on the stick.

Learn the back kick. (Best way is to practice without gear on to begin with, no fins, until you can swim backwards. Then add fins, and when that goes well, get in with full gear and try it.)

We do pretty much all skills for fundamentals and some more. S-drill . valve-drill, SMB deployment, backup light deployment, propulsion techniques, mask removal and switch to the spare, gas switch, stage bottle handling passing them from one diver to the other all these by the bottom and mid water

What are your goals in diving?

It seems to me that if you are looking to set out on a path, you should first think about where it will end.

John has a good point, although I think a lot of the listed things are useful for most recreational divers. It may not be necessary to polish them to a fine shine, but if you have lots of pool time and no OW time available, why not?

Thanks for all the great replies.

My goal is to be able to do dives within the 200 foot range. In doubles with stages.

However, Right now I'm just putting in my time getting lots of dives in and taking it one step at a time. As of now i'm AOW, somewhere in the 100 dive range, comfortable with my abilities yet I also know you can never quit learning.

Maybe I'm crazy but I just feel like no one has any business taking a Tec or funde class with sub 150 dives. I know I will probley catch some heat from that but I had a good buddy die from doing to much to soon. That is where I'm at and where I'm hopefully headed.

Again thanks for the replies.

Ps. Sorry for any grammer problems I'm typing this on my iPhone!

I share your attitude about the tech but not about Fundamentals. I'm also a believer that tech should be done at least after 200 mark
