Pool diving - do you do it with a buddy?

I agree with the others, diverdamsel...it's always safest, regardless of skill level, to dive with someone else. Trust your skills and comfort in the water, but always make sure you've got a buddy with you.

Also, you might want to check your local dive shops to see if they have any clubs or anything that you could join...always a good way to meet fellow divers.

what about doing it with the cover on "really bad idea" I wonder if that will go toward a cavern dive?

I remember a guy died in a pool while testing some things on his rebreather...
Ok, that may be a bit different than OC diving, but Murphy doesn't just hide in the ocean

Yeah, if I remember correctly that was a mixture problem with the rebreather. He basically fell asleep and then suffocated because the rebreather was still scrubbing the CO2 (which gives you the impetus to breath) but not putting enough O2 into the loop.

... i would say that its ok, i disagree with everyone else, its a pool. nothing should happen...

Tek is right about one thing, nothing should happen. Nothing bad should ever happen with the proper mainenance, experience, and training. But that line of thinking when it comes to safety is seriously flawed.

The problem with his philosophy is that things do happen. No matter how experienced you are, how simple the circumstances, or how easy the dive seems to be,.. things can happen. That's why dive buddies are there. They are not just there to share the experience with (although that's a plus). They are there to help you in the event something happens that you wern't expecting.

Here are some good examples of what happens (in unbeleivably shallow water) without a buddy:

.... Just dive with a buddy. Or at very least, if your going to be in a pool, have someone watch you from up top.

I don't think you have to have a buddy with scuba in a pool...I did some weight/gear checks with my wife after she recovered from some surgery. I also checked some new computers in the deep end. I guess it depends on what you are doing in the pool.

P.S. there were lifegaurds but, they probably wouldn't have known something was wrong until it was too late.

All I have to add is what about thoes golf ball divers? They rarely have dive buddies...And most golf ponds are as deep or deeper than a pool.

Yes I am taking into consideration that they are usually very experienced divers to dive in thoes conditions...But still.
