Question, is it possible/advisable or just foolish to sling a 30cu pony bottle on a jacket style BC? That seems to be gettin' a little to large for a tank mount.

Does anyone do this and if so at what attachment point?

Seems foolish, depending on the specifics of the BCD. Many recreational BCDs have poorly designed/constructed/attached D-rings (ie: non-solid rings that could open up, plastic rings that could break, rings that are too small, D-rings that are merely sewn into nylon straps or tabs, or just plain poorly located D-rings)

A good friend of mine does all the time. He uses a Zeagle back inflate that is well laid out for the purpose. Most of the recreational bc's I've seen are not, however.

Depending on your range a 19 might be sufficient, a 40 has a lot of future value as a deeper pony or a deco bottle. You might consider getting a 19 for now, always useful.

Depends on the BC. I have a Zeagle and I did it all the time.

For the recreational BCs I don't think it is a good idea, but for a stronger back inflate BC with D rings made for that purpose I don't see why not, although my preference is BP/W

My 19 slings easily on my Sherwood Avid. It really depends on what you have for a BC. If the rings are plastic I would not count on them.

thanks folks. i think i'm going with a 19 for a rec. depth bailout bottle. then larger stage bottles when i reconfigure my bc to bp/w

Maybe if you didn't give your buddy the leaky tank he would share his air with you in an emergency, and you wouldn't need a pony at all!
