I have a few nice ponds just right down the road. Just wondering if anyone has ever gone diving in a pond, and any tips if so the ones I looking at may be about 20-30 feet deep. I know visibility will be bad most likely but it would be under water time and it would be nice to see the aquatic life in my county and maybe even document some of it.

If they are ponds and not stock tanks they may be fun. Cattle tend to kill off all the vegetation around the edge that filters the silt out of the runoff and makes the vis > 1' instead of < 1'. Wintertime can have really good visibility after the algae bloom dies back. If the water looks like chocolate milk, you probably shouldn't bother.

And depending on where they are located at, WHAT is running off into them can be a problem too.

watch out for snapping turtles, alligators, and other slithering things:D

And make sure it's not a farm lagoon where the livestock crap gets dumped so it can biodegrade. These usually stink pretty bad so you'd know it before you jumped in.

You might need one of these certs., any agency will do:

If you don't know what's down there and your going solo, be sure to pay attention to potential entanglements. A friend and I have some property with a "pond" on it that we expanded out to almost 20 acres. When doing so we designed quite a few structures with trees and other things for fish habitat that could create problems for an unsuspecting diver not aware of it.

I looked at the Satellite view of Sasakwa, OK. and The Boy does have a few nice little ponds near his town.
I say he should give it a try ASAP !

ems is 4 me ..... The fish are in hiding right now but come Spring time you need to get a spear gun dude ;)

Lake Murray isn't too very far from where you live and it's a good place to dive.
I like to go there.
