Going to WPB in June with a group. Two years ago we did all our diving on the Rampage...crew and service were good but I am wondering about others.

Also, years ago, when I was a kid (literally) we always went diving in WPB with an outfit owned by two people named Nancy and Paul (last name??). Don't know the name of the shop and I am sure they have retired but they were good guides and only took a few people at a time. Anyone know who I am talking about and if anyone took over their shop/guide service?

I have to put my two cents in here. I have been diving the West Palm Beach area for some time now. I have been diving with Coral Island Charters in WPB and they are terrific. The owner of the shop Jay Mauney is also the Captain of the boat many days on the Coral Palm. Jay is one of the most experienced persons in the dive industry. (Check his bio on their website)If he isn't the captain that day, then Mike Kozlow ("Koz") is the Captain of the day. Both of these gentlemen are extremely experienced captains and know there stuff.

The diving that I have done with Coral Island Charters has been terrific. They know the best spot for the reef lovers and wreck lovers alike. The DMs that go in the water with you are experienced, fun and very professional. I started diving with them as a beginner and they made me feel comfortable with the whole process of drift diving.

PS, When we returned from a dive trip, my car had a flat tire. My luck, I had run over a nail on the way to the parking lot. It was just about to pour rain and storm in the WPB area and one of the DM (I think his name was Brian) graciously offered to help me with the flat tire in the pouring rain. It just goes to show that this charter not only goes out of their way on the boat but off the boat as well. Definitely give them a try.

Back to the top....anyone else want to chime in with an opnion? We're leaving Friday. Thanks!

I like Rampage personally.

I dived off of Diving Solutions a few times, they were ok. The did have fresh fruit on board for the SI.

My last dive there I used the SS Minnow. The boat and crew were great, however I had a few problems with the DM in the water touching the turtles, swimming intothe current to touch the turtle, etc. But other than that the boat was great.

It depends on your comfort level in the water. Diving Solutiuons tends to limit experienced divers by telling you how long your dive can last and requiring you to follow a divemaster. I prefer to be on my own. That is why I go 10 minutes further south to Boynton Beach. Not only is it a better (and more colorful) reef, but the boat I go with puts up with my hour long dives without complaint. Minimum supervision. If that is what you prefer, try www.loggerheadcharters.com
