Ok so I am sitting here bored at work and surfing the net and decided to check out NADE's website. Looking at the videos they have on their about the Poling it seems that the anemones have dissapeared. Having been on that wreck numerous times it was always covered in the frilly little animals. So here is a question for all you would be marine biologists.....why? Anyone have any clue as to why they aren't there anymore? Has to be a reason.

On our dive there on Saturday we saw several white snake-like fish all over the wreck. I have no idea what they are, but I've never seen them before and I wonder if they have something to do with it.

White, snake-like fish? Could you describe them in more detail?

They were more or less just sitting curled on the bottom, several inches long, and very thin. I think they had a light grey back and a really bright white underbelly. They were all over the deck. Maybe some sort of gunnel?

Maybe, or possibly a daubed shanny or snake blenny, although I guess the latter are usually british, and neither explains about the anemone.

I posted a thread about this over at the deco stop, and there are several theories being bandied about, none that we can pinpoint for certain.

It's as bad as I said it was, huh, Soggy?

What a shame.

There are three probable explanations.
1. Loss of habitat
2. Over predation or invasive forign species
3. Loss of food source

Are there any other noticable changes to the site? Temp, current, turbidity, etc....?

We were on there two weeks ago and also saw piles of those white snake like thingies.
Checked out the boats book and it seems the they are squid egg sacs? They were all along by the stern end.

I'm going back out this Saturday with CAD. I'll see if there still there.
