A 21-year-old Columbia man drowned in Lake Murray Wednesday night.

The Lexington County coroner’s office said Evan M. Myers was swimming with friends around 8:30p.m. when he started having difficulties.
The young man’s body was located in about 10 feet of water by a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department dive team. An autopsy determined that Myers died as a result of freshwater drowning.

The accident occurred at the Pine Island Club, a club on the lake operated for S.C.E.&G. employees. He was a guest of an S.C.E.&G. employee, utility spokesman Eric Boomhower said.
The Lexington County coroner's office continues to investigate the accident.
Evan Myers was a Law Explorer with the Irmo P.D.
