I've been looking over the threads for the last couple of days. Man there are a lot in here. Being brand new, Will complete the open water dives this month. It's nice to be able to find a place to find answers from more than one source. I look forward to the time when I can kick in my two cents.

First welcome and good luck with your certification. If you can get out on the water and do some skin-diving (snorkeling) it will pay off in many ways.

Since almost and scuba topics can be answered more than 1 way being able to get a cross section of responses here is a great asset.

Don't be bashful about kicking your 2 cents in right now. We can all learn a thing or two (I could learn a thing or three). When I was doing my OW cert dives, it always struck me as cumbersome to be hauling around a dive flag with poly rope that you hand wrapped on and off a spool. I looked at reels that were too damned expensive so decided to make my own. I got an old floating flyline and spooled it onto a Stanley chalk line reel ($7.00 US at local Wally World) and put a nylon strap on the back to fit over a 7mm glove. The handle on the reel is big enough to work with 7mm gloves on, it has an easy feed, a speedy retrieve, the flyline floats up and out of your way and is very strong and cut resistant. I've had friends copy the design and improve on it. Well...guess I'm not averse to tooting my own horn, am I? Point being - this was an idea I had before I was even certified so don't let your newness stop you from contributing right now. Happy diving!

Not only pitch in your experiences etc but feel free to ask questions. There is a big lot of us eager to help a fellow new diver.

Best whishes in your open waters ereediver. Don't forget to wear the ring.
