Anyone else like poetry?

My favorite is Frost's "Fire & Ice" - compares destructive power of fire & ice to human passions of desire & hate.

Also, being the dad of 4 daughters, I like Yeats' "A Prayer for My Daughter". If you have a daughter and that doesn't choke you up, nothing will.

For those of us who've lost loved ones, Wordsworth's "We Are Seven" encourages us to think of those we've lost as still part of our family. I always liked that one, but it was much more meaningful to me after we lost my wife's mother (an amazing woman) five years ago.

Others?

i love poetry. i actually have a BA in English and an MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry).
tried making a living teaching college and publishing; didnt' quite work out.

i really love 20th century American poetry... probably my favorites are T.S. Eliot and
Wallace Stevens.

Yeats is awesome, so is Frost. Anne Sexton, Adrienne Rich, Sylvia Plath, Randall Jarrell, Donald Justice are some of my other favs.

There is nothing that can compare with "The Cremation of Sam Magee" by Robert W. Service. True wit and horror "that would make your blood run cold".

Ogden Nash...

The turtle lives 'twixt fixed plates
that manage to conceal its sex.
I think it clever of the turtle
in a such a fix to be so fertile.

and let's not forget:

there once was a woman from Natzches
whose clothing was covered in patches.
when asked to address the state of her dress
she drawled: where i itches i scratches.

the poet Ogden Nash
