Anyone familiar with this area? We are looking for a couple of boat dives with the chance to catch a couple of bugs

My wife and I went up to Plymouth yesterday just to walk around (she had never been there) and I kept my eyes open for dive shops/charters and didn't find any :(

That's not to say that they aren't there but after walking around the harbor and the historic district (right on the water) I didn't see anything.

If you follow rt. 3A South through the historic district (past the harbor, keeping the water on your left) you end up down by a public beach which may offer some OK diving.

There was one dive boat operating out of Plymouth last summer and the engine cooked during a trip around late July timeframe. I don't believe it was repaired in time for the season's end.

I'm not sure if it's back and running this year, but Kim or Wayne at Divers Market could tell you.

I was wondering about shores dives off Plymouth. The Donald Ferris book lists several shore dives including Flag Rock, White Horse and Warren Cove. The write-ups sound promising, but I've never heard anyone on the board talk about diving there. Any input on these sites would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had read the same stuff which was why I started this post. Did not get a lot of replies so we decided to try Flag Rock yesterday. It's suppossedly a shore dive but the access, especially parking, is terrible. We dove it from a boat. Our first dive was only in about 20' of water, visibility was ok about 15 feet but not a lot to see except a bunch of pregnant crabs and a couple of rays.. Bottom was all sand.

We moved the boat closer to where there were a bunch of lobster pots. Things were much better, lots of rocks, sea life and a couple of lobsters worth keeping, the lobsters are evidently molting because their shells were very soft.

These were very easy dives, little current with decent visibility, water temp 55 degrees. Pretty good for a couple of old farts like my wife and I.

We are going to try one or two of the other sites in the area latter this week if the weather holds.
