If you can get HOG's they really are probably worth ordering online... I know some people are leary about it, but depending on where you order it from it'll be just fine. I vote for the Apeks as well. What I use and what I was pushed towards when I got into this game. Never looked back

I'm an Atomics fan. Great regs, best warranty in the business. Made in the good ol' USA but that may not matter so much to a Canadian.

If local service is a problem, you can send it to Atomic for service every two years easily enough, although that may be expensive since it would technically be "international shipping."

All of your choices look solid to me.

I've always chosen SP because of not only the quality of the products, but the customer service too. I have never had an issue with any of my SP regs, and I'm on generation #3. I've also owned their BCD's, computers and other equipment and they have warranted items immediately when any issues arose.

I had a BCD leak at a seam and been handed a brand new one at the shop when I brought it in - no waiting for it to be sent into SP. I had a fin snap in half, and walked out with a new pair. Most recently my Air X nitrox was out of warranty by a decade and when the battery went dead, SP said it was not serviceable. They gave me 40% off a SOL. They are continuing my warranty on my regs even though they were not serviced for years because I was out of diving.

That's a pretty good record in my book and if I ever do need or want new regs, it will be SP.

Apeks ATX40/DS4 + ATX40 Octo (new but old) = $550 + tax
k thanks!
I do not think there is much differences in term of performance between XTX and ATX 2nd stage.
I would definitely go for the Apeks model.

Both SP and Apeks with live to your expectations, both are great regs. I own both apeks and SP and cant really tell any difference, the SP looks cool but i also admire the simplicity in the design of Apeks, since both brands can be serviced around your neighborhood i think it will boil down to the price and for that i will be leaning on the Apeks, you can spend the extra $200 on another shinny equipment or a dive trip..

I dive the Atomic B2, it's been an excellent reg; very satisfied with the product. Good customer support too. I own a number of their other products. In my opinion, everything Atomic makes is of the highest quality and thoughtful design. If Atomic did not exist, I would probably buy ScubaPro, very good quality as well.

A friend of mine had an Apex reg, but got rid of it and bought Atomic after he tried my B2.

I have Scubapro MK25/S600 and love it. I use HP steel tanks and use din 1st stage.

You can get them online for less than $600. I went to my LDS and gave them a chance to come close to the online price. I paid cash and they made me a good deal. I always try to give my local LDS my business. You also can buy good used gear for less.

Thanks to everyone for the replies!

I decided to go with the Apeks. The price was right for new regs with a good service interval (inspection after 1 year, full service after 2).

I went diving today with them today. Temperature was 46F/8C and I dropped down to 90 feet. Nothing but smooth easy breathing the whole time. Looking forward to using them some more!

Glad you like the Apeks. Very similar in performance to the HOG D1 Cold Water reg, which I love.
