I am unfortunately not going to get to do much diving this trip. Our last trip I got to do a lot of diving. I promised my wife our next trip I would not spend the whole trip diving. So I am probably only going to do 1 day of diving. I am wondering if the Cenotes are a must or are they just hype. I am a big guy at 6'6 260lbs am I going to be able to maneuver in there? To my knowledge I am not claustrophobic. Any recommendations on a Dive center? I am staying at the Iberostar Tucan, and read a few bad reviews on their dive site. I am not ruling them out, but not counting them in yet. The only diving I have actually done is reef diving, but no complaints. Any and all post will be appreciated. Ps I really want to dive with a whale shark, but I can do that another time.

There is plenty of room for a big guy in a cenote but from your profile, you don't have a lot of dives and good buoyancy control is important. Also, they are inland a ways. They are definitely not just hype but they don't appeal to me. If it were me, I would just try and find some diving with a company near your resort for the ease and peace in the family. And also because I like marine life of which there is none in a cenote.

The Cenotes are beautiful but with only a single dive day on your trip, how good is your buoyancy? I have done a single dive in a cenote, Taj Mahal and it was at around dive # 30, I had been diving all week and thought I had my buoyancy down. I was like a pig on ice in a true enclosed environment; luckily I didn’t do any damage to the site. I am not sure of the diving locally in Playa (on the mainland I have always dived Akumal and south) but Cozumel is a short ferry trip to some of the best dive sites around.
