I did a fantastic bull shark dive last year with Geofish. Anyone know if the sharks are back in numbers this year?

Also, does anyone know why the shark dives are so expensive? Two dive trips are $70 and a one dive shark tip is $85. I remember the boat trips as being about ten minutes, so fuel and time is not the issue.

I'm guessing it costs that much cause that's what you (or the market) are willing to pay...There is this book called "The Wealth of Nations" that explains it.

Sorry for the smart ass reply, but, in this case, it is the explanation.

Supply and demand. And as cpichette mentioned, people pay it. It's due East of the closest dive site to Playa, Jardines, so clearly not expense related.

Any unusual dive gets priced at a premium. How much is a night dive compared to a regular dive?

I remember that I could practically swim to to the dive site from the beach. I was giving the charters the benefit of the doubt. Thanks for ripping off the blinders and reinforcing my cynicism. It was a great dive though, and worth the excess price.

This month we are also seeing bull sharks on a regular basis at dive sites south of the town pier. Kind of cool to just go on a "regular" dive and have sharks appearing as opposed to going to a site where some dive operators chum.

Like Mike says, the shark dive is a special (& higher risk) activity, hence the premium rates. Guess chum & chainmail suits for the guides add to the cost too.
