I have a SeaVision mask I bought about 8 years ago. I was told at the LDS that the mask could be used for SCUBA. It is one of those color correcting masks with pink tinted lenses. I recently got my OW cert, but was advised by the LDS where i did the course that I should only use something with tempered glass.

So does anyone use the SeaVision mask with plastic lenses for diving? What about the "tempered glass only" advice, any comments there?

Let me guess, your's is not OK but they had one they would sell you... While a plastic lens might not be the best quality, there is no reason that it can not be used for scuba as long as it seals. Any comments about pressure are pure BS.

I think the caution about using only tempered glass goes back to the days when masks were often home-made, and sometimes from plate glass.
Tempered glass was recommended to avoid the risk of glass breaking into dangerously sharp shards while it is near your eyes. Tempered glass breaks into little beads.

There are so many different plastics nowadays that a prohibition against any plastic doesn’t make sense. I strongly suspect SeaVsion has chosen a plastic that doesn’t break into sharp shards.

Thanks for the responses.

Actually, the mask is not prescription. The oringinal Sea Vision mask I had was. Then I lasered my eyes...and got the new mask (8 years ago).

Anyway, I guess I have two good masks now. One clear, one tinted. Thanks for the help everyone.
