These are advertised as having rust resistant springs and they cost $16.35 for 10:

Overall length 2 3/4", width 1 ", overall thickness 1/2", Approximate hook size 1/2" X 3/8", Swivel hole size 1/4"

For rec diving to be used with a BP/wing setup, what do you think?

The alternative would be SS bolt snaps from reefscuba, tech diving limited, or some other place, but those cost a lot more.

If you know any really great deals for these, then please share. For SS snaps, this place has the best deals I've seen.

Get the steel ones.

Another vote for stainless steel, and another vote for Nix Dog Collars. And if you just want a small quantity, or a mix and match set or whatever, give Doug Nix an email - he'll work with you.

The "Not intended for life safety devices" is a no-sweat to me -- most people would treat that as don't expect it to hold weights that could hurt/kill someone if it failed.

Longevity would be a question, particularly if you dive salt -- the "rust resistant" part might be an issue.

He seems to have the best prices, but there are no 1/2"ers offered which Dress for Success recommends for lights. Do you, or BP/W divers in general, prefer 3/4"ers even for smaller items?

Not this BP/Winger. I prefer '1/2"ers' for most stuff like light head, backup lights, primary reg, and little camera clipoff.

Though I'm to the point where I don't *need* to "solve a skill problem with an equipment solution" any more, I'm lazy and still like the larger ones for deco bottles and SPG ;)

Oh - and after starting out using brass snaps for their cheapness, I'll stick with SS ones. Plastic? Not a chance. I'm a clutz and have a tendency to break stuff without even trying

Too flimsy for any serious application. I'd go for steel.
