Hello,
We are vacation divers, who have managed to only dive awesome locations, with small groups. Sometimes just us and the dive master
We were certified in Cozumel on our honeymoon 10 years ago. Since then we have been to Abaco Bahamas, and Belize twice (Ambergris Caye & Southwater Caye) We also were talked into a cruise (blech) that took us back to Cozumel and to Grand Cayman. For our 10 year anniversary we were going to go back to Southwater Caye, but stumbled upon Honduras after purchasing a Dive magazine. The reason we LOVED Southwater Caye Belize, was its remoteness, solar power, composting toilets, small compound, super friendly staff etc. We don't get to travel and dive THAT often so we always want to make the best choice possible. And we don't much care for travel with the masses
This led us to Roatan, and eventually Utila.
RIght now we are considering Laguna Beach Resort. At first my main concerns were bugs and rain...but there's not much I can do about that but bring spray and get travel insurance for any potential Hurricanes. My new concern is the reef quality in Utila. I tried to read through as much as I could, and it sounds like diving in Utila I should expect to spend more time looking for the little things as opposed to big schools and dramatic reefs. Is this correct? We are really not expecting to see Whale Sharks, but something similar to what we've seen in Belize would be nice. Anyone who's done both areas recently. If so, is Utila a comparable vacation to Belize?
From what I've seen LBR seems like a safe bet...with the exception of those nasty bugs. Any insight on the resort would be much appreciated as well.
I find these forums to be the BEST way to get info on travels
Thanks in advance!
