As you will see in the announcement at the top of the forum, we'll be taking the board down for server upgrades tonight. Actually, ScubaBoard is scheduled to go down our time Thursday, May 25th at 7pm.

Even though we expect the system to come back up in 24 - 48 hours, make sure that you get print any info you might need this weekend like directions to the Sundiver on Saturday or any other plans to dive over the weekend.

As with all technical upgrades the process may take longer than expected due to unforeseen circumstances and the board may not come back up until after all of the plans that you've made for memorial weekend. Be sure to exchange cell phone numbers, so that you can get in touch with each other.

Those of you who know me know that I'm not a pessimist, but also believe in planning for the worst case scenario.

If the IP numbers of the new servers are different, and they well might be, propagation of the new IP information to the DNS servers throughout the internet will take up to 48 hours - after the new servers come up. If so there will be a period in which some people are getting the Board while others down the street with different ISPs and hence different DNS servers are still being directed to the old server IP addresses. Not sure a Board can be mirrored. Anyhow, individual milage could differ for a few hours.

With the slow and inconsistent performance of the Board on the old servers I'm looking forward to some greased lightning on the new ones.

10:00 PM EST is more like 7:00 PM, your time, n'est pas?

NetDoc:

Can you give us a few technical details on the transition - or does the Wizardary of ScubaBoard remain "behind the curtain".

Jim

http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=143487 has a few of the details. However, since we are not pointing DNS servers, the actual propagation of our site will take about 15 minutes once we are ready.

Yes! You are correct! I've changed the original post to reflect accurate info.

Sorry about that folks.

I just went 3 hours in the wrong direction. I'm used to converting my time to other times. That's what I do most often. :D
