That means the real issue is either:
1) poor quality servicing of the reg
2) reg not serviced recently
3) not a "cold water" reg

New reg, about 20 dives on it. It's coming in for an inspection and it is cold water rated.

My primary is a thing of beauty. Pristine A700 shiny as.

My necklaced has seen ten years service (and services) but it breaths a little wet. It’s not the reg I want in an emergency but it’s fine for me as no surprises. I imagine countless octos are in substantially worse condition that my aqualung legend backup, particularly rentals.

So primary donate in stressful situations definitely makes sense to me. Well done to OP for keeping a cool head and probably saving someone’s life or preventing injury.
