As a default when you certify someone through SSI a physical card is not printed. The instructor needs to select the option to print the card (and the dive shop is billed). If the dive shop chooses to charge for the card or not, or what they choose to charge, that is up to them. SSI will mail the card to either the shop or the diver. If you don't have a card, its the shop you need to go back to and they can order one.
.

My local SSI shop printed all my cert cards on the spot.

Shops can always order cards from SSI if they aren't set up to print in-house - cost will depend on what they feel like charging you. I recommend you confirm if they will shop the card directly to you, or to the shop. My old shop used to include the hard-card as part of he cert, new shop doesn't.

Thanks for the info- much appreciated!!!
FWIW... https://my.divessi.com/order_replacement_card

When I started about two weeks ago with SSI I was told they don't do cards and if you want them they are $30. At the link I just showed above... $60.

For those that have said their shop just does it... My guess is it may be directly related to what they charge. I noticed that with SDI the price for classes varies wildly from instructor to instructor... so it wouldn't surprise me if SSI had something similar. It could be that Dive Shop A charged $250 for the nitrox class and you get a card... while Dive Shop B charges $200 and you don't get a card. It may be that simple.

All the times people have told me they needed my card.... they wanted it scanned and emailed to them. With SDI or SSI I can just click "send to" in the app and it solves that problem.

There is also an alternative way ;)
Download your cards, and send them to 3rd party printing service that can print business cards or blank plastic cards like the hotel ones for example. And there you have it.

All the cards are in my paper log.
I have printed duplicates for the Rescue, Nitrox and Deep cards that I carry in the regulator bag. This way even without mobile service, it is easy to present proof to the Dive Center in any remote location.

I need to do this yesterday, thanks for the idea.
