Since it is getting slow around here, I've posted some photos for those who are curious. Seems like it is time to start heading south, south, south. Two weeks ago a buddy and I headed to Marianna, Florida to dive the Jackson Blue cave for the first time. Some friends of ours drove up from Gainesville to join us on the dives. The photos are in the gallery; I think the easiest way for you to see them is to look in the "caves, caverns & cenotes" section. There are nine shots of the cave system.

Dive safe & often.

How'd you like taking up that reel??

Well, you know with the flow being down, I suppose we had it pretty easy. Plus, as the camera dude, my job was to catch my team members fumbling with the reel (ha ha). But to be fair they did a great job; no real incriminating photographic evidence to share with their instructors/mentors.

My one time there, I got suckered into running the reel. I didn't draw the connection to the smirk when being given the honor of leading until I was trying to get purchase on the ceiling with my fins while reeling as fast as I could get my arm moving!

I should have known when the 3rd team member repeated multiple times... "What??? We're not scootering?!?"

Ha! I've heard that is usually the case at JB. We were more than pleased with the manageable flow, and it didn't take long to find some good places to stay out of the heavier current on the way in. If it gives you any sense of the low flow's positive impact on swimming, we went as far as the jump to the King's Bypass (about p. 1600') in about 28 minutes and had not yet hit turn pressure.

We really enjoyed this cave and want to go back soon to explore more side passages before the winter rains start pushing the flow back up into "scooter only" velocity.

I didn't really notice the flow until we turned around. Almost to the exit when I realized I kicked all of a dozen times or so.

Jackson is actually quite an easy cave to swim. You just have to know *where* to swim .

You're right, things are pretty slow around here, but your pics sure purked things up. Nice shots, I really enjoyed them. Thanks for posting. steve
