Get to know your critters. Depending on where and how deep you go, that's where many of today's new species are coming from. You could not only have the only photo of a fish, but you might even discover something completely new to anybody. Rich Pyle gave a talk to my class once. One way he rates places he visits is by the number of species he discovers per hour underwater. The lower ranked spots were somewhere around 2-3 with some locations producing 11 new species per hour underwater. Talk about finding your photographic niche!
