For the last 15 years or so I've been using a 2-drive NAS server (RAID 1) for storage at home. However should I loose the server then I loose everything.

I'm considering cloud options (possibly Onedrive) to back up my files offsite, but as I last looked at cloud and physical storage options over a decade ago I'm curious what are folks here using to back up their files in 2025?

Cheers,
Rohan.

I have drives on two desktops and my laptop has a 4TB M2 chip so keep a lot of video and photos on there as well. If you have a raid system with two drives you should never have failure on both drives.

I dont put anything on cloud services.

Cloud storage for current year and two external hard drives for older stuff. One stored at work, one stored at home.

Is there another location you can use for off-site backup? Maybe you can set up a NAS with a family member somewhere. Give them space on the drives and you'll both have off-site backup.

I keep the cards. But then how long do they last?

I've had few nas/server failures over the years that i gave up a bit on this as primary "backup" solution. i now have 2 OneDrive for Business accounts (and i can store up to 5TB on each) that are my primary backups and also keep the same data on a 16TB USB. for a quick access, i use the usb, but once it goes, i still have the cloud solutions. but i'm reaching the limit, so i'm looking to change it to Azure and Amazon file storages...

the downside of the cloud option is that you pay for what you use...every month...its not a 1-off payment

I have a NAS system and two laptops.
Laptop 1 is used to view and edit the images (locally on the laptop).
A copy is then transferred from the folder to the NAS.
The second laptop is synchronized via Synology Drive.

External drives. Before the sun goes down on a dive day, I have multiple copies saved off.
